Service Description

Around the world, breath holds significant meaning. In many cultures breath is considered a bridge between our inner and outer worlds, linking mind, body and spirit. So the breath, and how we breathe, has much to offer those seeking spiritual direction and their spiritual journey. In these group sessions you will be guided in Conscious Connected Breathing, a rhythmic, continuous breathing technique that involves inhaling and exhaling without pauses. This flowing pattern is simple to learn and can help us tap into the body’s innate intelligence, release stored emotions and access deeper states of presence, calm, strength, healing and self-discovery. It can be seen as an active meditation tool, using the breath to release tension from the body and nervous system, ground you back into the body, quieten the frantic mind and reconnect to yourself and the sacred. Potential benefits include emotional release, reduced stress, increased energy, deeper presence, connection to self and nature, and enhanced mental clarity. What to expect in a group breathwork session These sessions are an opportunity to support and resource yourself in community, whether you are a breathwork regular or just starting. Sessions run for 90 minutes and are guided by Matt Freer, one of our Directors and a certified Breathwork Facilitator. No previous experience is necessary. Matt will introduce the practice, teach the breathing technique and invite you to set an intention or prayer before facilitating a ‘breathe’, with time for sharing and integration afterwards. You will need a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted, ideally somewhere you can comfortably lie or sit down. A blanket, cushion and mat can be helpful. Online sessions are on Zoom, so you will need a device to connect with, ideally placed so the facilitator can see you during the session. You may also want water, a notepad and earphones. Please have any medication you may need to hand, such as an asthma inhaler. Breathwork is accessible to many people, but some health conditions are contraindicated for Conscious Connected Breathing. It is crucial that you check the contraindications and inform Matt before a session. In most cases you can still participate, but he will guide you accordingly. Although usually relaxing and enjoyable, breathwork can result in physical or emotional release, including tingling, dizziness, trembling, shaking, emotional experiences or the sense of energy moving through the body.
