Spiritual direction invites you to slow down and listen deeply to what stirs beneath the surface of your daily life. It is a space where left-field questions open doors to hidden truths and silent burdens you might be carrying. Sometimes they evoke a cathartic aha moment ...
Asking the right questions can reveal what is easy to miss and even what we refuse to feel, what we hide behind explanations, and what parts of our faith quietly endure without words.
This Lent, I am exploring a collection of reflective questions designed to guide you toward greater self-awareness. They're the kinds of questions I find myself asking in sessions if I'm tuned in. Here are the first 10/40. You can follow along during Lent on instagram or Facebook.
Q: What are you refusing to feel because it would slow you down? A: Pace – the speed you choose so you don’t arrive.
Q: Where are you over-explaining to avoid being seen? A: Veil – what protects you, and also separates you.
Q: Which part of your faith is alive, even without a name? A: Ember – warmth that survives without performance.
Q: What have you been postponing with “later”? A: Permission – the quiet yes you stop waiting for.
Q: What are you carrying that isn’t yours to carry? A: Burden – weight that grows when it’s unnamed.
Exploring Deep Reflection: Questions for Inner Growth and Healing
These questions are not meant to be answered quickly or superficially. They invite you to pause, reflect, and explore with honesty and self-compassion. And the answers are not answers but further prompts for wondering.
Whether you use them in personal reflection or in spiritual direction sessions, they can open pathways to healing and deeper self-understanding.
Take time with any question that grabs you. Write your responses, meditate on the images they evoke, or discuss them with a guide or in prayer with God. The journey inward is often slow and winding, but it leads to a place where hidden truths come to light and silent burdens begin to lift.
Consider choosing one question to focus on for as long as it motivates you. Notice what arises without judgment. Over time, these reflections can transform how you relate to yourself and your faith.
Your spiritual journey is unique. These questions offer gentle invitations to explore the parts of yourself that often go unnoticed but hold great power for growth and peace.
If you are seeking spiritual direction, bring these questions with you. Let them guide your conversations and your inner listening. The answers may surprise you, and the process will deepen your connection to your own story and to the sacred.
